Background

History

In June 1857 the hotel was warned about not having a stable:

William Sidebottom, John o'Groat, Sebastapol. Mr Randall supported the application. Serjant Larner said there was no stable to this house. Granted, and cautioned that he is liable to be fined for not having stable accommodation.[1]

His application in June 1857 was opposed by the police:

Mr Randall supported the application. The house was complained of by the police as a disorderly one, but the license was granted with a caution.[2]
