In August 1869 the hotel was advertised as being the office for the Golden Point Quartz and Alluvial Gold Mining Company of Clunes:

GOLDEN POINT QUARTZ AND ALLUVIAL GOLD MINING COMPANY (Registered), North Clunes.—A CALL (the second) of Three Shillings per Share has been made, due and payable on or before Monday, 10th August, 1869, to the manager, at the office of the company, No. 5 Friend's (late Cameron's) Hotel, Ballarat. FREDK. A. EDWARDES, Manager.[1]

In November 1869 the hotel was the Ballarat contact point for the manager (Frederick A. Edwardes) of the Golden Point Quartz and Alluvial Gold Mining Company of Clunes, who were going to sell forfeited shares.[2]

In January it was the contact point for the manager of the Trojan Quartz Mining Company of Blackwood for the sale of forfeited shares.[3]
