Annie Christina Ballinger was a publican in Ballarat, <1915-1929>.
History[edit | edit source]
Annie Christina Beckmann was born c.1876, the daughter of Heinrich Beckmann and Marie Peterson.[1]
She married John Henry Ballinger in Victoria in 1900.[2] In 1909 John Ballinger was listed as a publican in the electoral rolls, living at 402 Doveton Street.[3]
In 1915 the license for the Argyle Hotel was transferred from John to his wife.[4] She was called to testify in Ada Dawson's divorce case as Ada had lived at the hotel for several months after leaving her husband.[5]
In 1929 she was fined for opening outside trading hours:
For having had the bar door open during prohibited hours on June 1, Annie Christina Ballinger, licensee of the Argyle Hotel, was fined £5 on Tuesday. She was also fined £3 for having disposed of liquor, but a charge that persons had been found on the premises was withdrawn.[6]
She died in Ballarat in 1958.[1]
