The brewery is at 47 Mair Street, Ballarat, next door to the old Athletic Club Hotel, now the Freight Bar.

Background[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

The brewery opened in November 2016, in the premises of the Rebellion Brewery which had relocated to Wendouree in 2014. The new owner, Peter Parry, faced a series of complicated planning permits, even though the building had been operating as a brewery. This process delayed the reopening for 12 months.[1] It also operates a bar as part of the boutique brewery. It is operated by Parry Brewing Company Pty Ltd, with company director Peter Parry. In August 2018 the Ballarat Courier reported that the Sheriff's Office had seized assets belonging to the company, including beer vats, to recover unpaid debts.[2]

The owners of the brewery posted the following message on their Facebook site:

ACB is currently going through a period of change and restructure and to this effect will be ceasing brewing and hospitality services at our Mair Street site. We are currently in the process of sourcing another site to recommence brewing but nothing concrete on that front just yet. Will have more news on that soon hopefully.[3]

In January 2022 the owner of the Freight Bar announced plans to take over the former brewery building as an extra function space for the hotel.[4]
