History[edit | edit source]

In August 1879 the publican was asked to cater for a ball at for the Mechanics' Hall:

It is publicly announced that a ball is to be held at the Mechanics' on the 18th instant. Great preparations have been made to make the same a great success. Mr Blackburn, of the Black Horse hotel, is to supply the copper, and in such good hands I need scarcely say, " There'll be plenty and to spare." The committee expect about sixty people to patronise the event. Mrs Longden will preside at the piano.[2]
