- In December 1874 Thomas Murphy was granted the license for the hotel, even though it had been objected to on the grounds that it was not needed.[1] Thomas Murphy died in 1875.
- In December 1875 Thomas Murphy's daughter, Ellen Swanney was granted a license:
LICENSING MEETING - (Before MR Grant, S.L.M.) The following applications for new licenses were granted:- ... Ellen Swanney, Blarney Castle, Warrenheip, Bungareeshire. ...[2]
