The owner of the hotel tried unsuccessfully to have the license reinstated in December 1886:

Mr Pope applied, on behalf of Mr Alex. Clarke, the legal owner of the Bridge Inn, near Clunes, the license of which was forfeited at the previous sitting of the court, for a license to carry on the business, in the name of the present occupant of the premises, a man named Nelson. In the absence of the applicant, and on account of there being no satisfactory proof of ownership, the application was refused.[1]
