History[edit | edit source]

Bridget Magner was born in c.1847, the daughter of Robert Magner and Ellen Manahan.[1] She married William Kinane in Ballarat, Victoria, in 1868.[2] They had several children including:

  • Catherine (1870-1937)
  • Bridget (1871-1947)
  • William Robert (1873-1942)
  • Mary Ellen (1877-1961)

William had the license for the Half-way House Hotel in Skipton Street, Ballarat, from at least March 1875.[3] William died on 23 June 1885.[2]

She then took over the license until her death in 1887. The license was transferred to William Astley.[4]

In June 1887 she was fined £5 with £1 10s costs for Sunday trading.[5]

She died in Ballarat on 21 July 1887.[1][6] Her estate was valued at £235 4s 11d.[6]
