The Bush Inn was a hotel near Creswick, Victoria, <1861-1873>.

The hotel was in Melbourne Road, Creswick.[1] In June 1862 it was described as being at Back Creek. Based on the 1880 Creswick Map, it would be approximately at this position - -37.443069, 143.913617

Background[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

The police commented on the hotel at the license hearing in June 1862:

Sergeant Archibald gave this house a very high character, saying that it was the cleanest house he had seen in the district. Granted.[2]

In March 1873 the hotel was the venue for meeting of miners concerned about loss of access to land:

A meeting was held on Friday evening last, at the Bush Inn (says the Creswick Advertiser) for the purpose of taking steps to prevent the granting of the land known .as the Back Creek ranges, to those parties who have taken it up, the land being required for mining and timber purposes.[3]

  • In June 1861, 1862 and 1863, the publican's license was granted to John Whitcomb or Whitcombe (1863).[1][4]
