History[edit | edit source]

In February 1864 the publican, John Boland, transferred his license to the Horse Bazaar Hotel in Main Road.[2]

In December 1864 a customer had his horse stolen from outside the hotel:

A man named Charles Jones had his horse stolen last evening from the door of a hotel formerly known as the Clare Castle, in Eureka street. It appears he tied the horse up at the door for a few minutes during the time he was in the hotel, and when he came out he found that the animal had disappeared.[1]
