The Cosmopolitan Hotel was on the corner of Eyre Street and Windermere Street.[1][2]

Inquests[edit | edit source]

  • March 1867, into the death of Ballarat businessman John Smith Carver, suicide by shooting. The inquest was moved from the Pacific Hotel which proved to be too small for the crowd.[3]

Politics[edit | edit source]

  • October 1864, used as a venue for a political meeting by Mr. Morton,[4]
  • August 1865, Thomas Cowan, a candidate in the Ballarat West election, held a meeting at the hotel.[5]
