David Thomas was a publican in Ballarat, Victoria, <1862-1872>.

History[edit | edit source]

David Thomas was the publican of the Greenock Hotel. The hotel was destroyed in the Main Road fire on 26 November 1862, which destroyed 30 other buildings.[1] The building was insured for 350 guineas, but his stock and furniture were uninsured ; his estimated loss was 230 guineas.[2] He began rebuilding almost immediately, and within days had erected a new framework.[2]

Thomas advertised that he had taken over the Yarrowee Hotel in Main Road in 1863

YARROWEE HOTEL. MR. DAVID THOMAS, Late of the Greenock Hotel, Main road, Ballarat, BEGS to inform his friends and customers that he has removed to the Yarrowee Hotel, where he hopes, by keeping the best quality of liquors and accommodation, to merit a continuance of that patronage so liberally bestowed on him heretofore. Good Stabling.[3]

His license was renewed in June 1863.[4]

Thomas was granted the license for the Albion Hotel in March 1874, however the newspaper report does not specify which of the many Albion hotels.[5]
