Background[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

In December 1932, the Licensing Inspector challenged the renewal of the licensee for the hotel:

At the annual sittings of the licensing Court on Monday Eileen Atherton, licensee of the Dean Hotel applied for renewal of the license. Superintendent Hayes pointed out that the applicant's husband had been fined for being the occupier of a common gaming-house and in another instance was fined for having unlawfully used a hair-dresser's saloon for the purpose of betting It was contended that this could not be held against applicant to whom the license was transferred in June 1931. The renewal was granted.[3]

The hotel closed in 2012 and was turned into a private residence. In April 2020 is was offered for sale at a price of $770,000.[4]
