The hotel was on the corner of Hertford and Albert Streets, Sebastopol.[1]

Dudley Castle

The hotel is probably named for Dudley Castle which is a famous ruin in the West Midlands of England.


History[edit | edit source]

In September 1869 the hotel was advertising for a female cook.[2]

The hotel was offered for sale in December 1871:

THIS DAY, WEDNESDAY, 20th DECEMBER, At Twelve o'clook, On the Premises, Smythes Road, opposite No. 3 Band of Hope Shaft. To Hotelkeepers and Others. I. DEAN has been instructed by the trustees to sell by public auction, as above, That very desirable PROPERTY known as the Dudley Castle Hotel, situated on Crown lands, containing about sixteen rooms, and out-buildlngs, &c. N.B —The above was built about two or three years ago, is in excellent condition, and well worth the attention of parties requiring a really good and substantial building. No Reserve. Terms— Cash. I. DEAN, Auctioneer.[3]
