The Earl of Cardigan Hotel was a hotel near Ballarat, Victoria, 1871-1883>.

The hotel was in Burrumbeet Road[1], at Windermere.[2]

History[edit | edit source]

The hotel opened in September 1871:

John Schofield applied for a similar license for a house situated on the Ballarat to Burrumbeet road. The police reported that the house was nearly completed, but was not furnished. The applicant put in a letter signed by many of the residents in the neighborhood recommending the granting, of the license. License granted subject to the house being furnished in a proper manner within a week.[3]

  • In September 1871 the license was granted to John Schofield.[3]
    • It was renewed in December 1872 and 1873.[1][2]
  • In December 1880 the license renewal was refused:

The following application for renewal was refused, on the grounds of the house being in a dilapidated and dirty condition, viz, the premises of John W. Schofield, Earl of Cardigan hotel, Cardigan, The court then adjourned.[4]

  • The court again refused his license renewal in December 1883 as the hotel was in a dirty and dilapidated condition.[5]
