Etherton held the license for the Dean Hotel in Dean. In July 1932 she was in court for breaching licensing rules:

Ellen P. Etherton, licensee of the Dean Hotel, was fined £3 on each of two charges of disposal of liquor and having had persons on the premises during prohibited hours.[1]
