Background[edit]

History[edit]

The hotel was destroyed by fire in July 1884, and in December 1884 the licensee applied for a license for a new hotel:

P. Miechel applied for a renewal of the license held by him for the Family hotel, Beaufort, which was burnt down on 28th July last. Miechel stated that he had only received the insurance money for the building last Tuesday, and he intended to build new premises. A renewal was granted, providing, that the applicant erects new premises within four months, to which course the police offered no objections.[1]
