Frank Carver was a publican in Ballarat, <1891-1902>.

History[edit | edit source]

Carver held the license for Tattersall's Hotel.

He married Margaret Corbett in Victoria in 1864.[1] A son, Thomas, was born in Ascot Vale in 1865.[2]

A daughter, Harriet Esther, was born in 1876.[3]

His wife died in 1891:

The friends of Mr Carver, the well known host of Tattersall's hotel, will be sorry to hear that he yesterday received a telegram from Melbourne announcing his wife’s death that morning. Mrs Carver had a wide circle of friends, who will deeply regret her decease.[4]

His son, Thomas, died in March 1902:

Considerable regret was expressed in Ballarat yesterday afternoon when it became known that Mr Tom Carver, son of Mr F. Carver, of Tattersall's hotel, had expired, the cause of death being acute pneumonia. The late Mr Carver, by his genial disposition, had made himself a great favorite with all classes, and was more especially well known in sporting circles. He was a member of the committee of the Ballarat Miners' Turf Club, and occupied the position of hon. clerk of the course for many years. He was also the hon. weigher of the- Ballarat Turf Club, and an active supporter of the South Ballarat Football Club. At all district race meetings he was a familiar figure, and his genial presence will be sadly missed. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon, leaving the residence for the place of interment, the Ballarat Old Cemetery, at half-past 2 o'clock.[5]

Carver died on 1 September 1919.[6] He had become senile in his old age and had been admitted to the Hospital for the Insane, where he died from heart failure.[7]
