Background[edit | edit source]
History[edit | edit source]
The hotel was closed on 31 December 1909 by the Licenses Reduction Board.[2]:
The Licenses Reduction Board met in the Daylesford Courthouse on Wednesday, when the surrender of the license of the Glasgow Arms Hotel, Eganstown, Janet Graham owner and occupier, was accepted, to take effect from January 1 next.[3]
Compensation was fixed for the Glasgow Arms Hotel, Eganstown. Mrs Graham, the owner and licensee, withdrew her claim as licensee, and was awarded £208 as owner.[4]
The hotel was demolished to recover building materials in March 1917:
EGANSTOWN. AN OLD LANDMARK. An old landmark is now threatened through being selected to render "substituted service" in accordance with the modern demand for secondhand builders' material, consequent upon the high ruling rates for imported timber. The delicensed Glasgow Arms hotel conducted a lucrative trade half a century ago, when the gold deposits of "Blanket Flat" attracted considerable attention, and foreign emigrants of an excellent type settled down and established homes and families, with mutual advantage to the State and the individual. It is now to serve other purposes, for Mr Jno. Jeflery, the local contractor, is about to proceed with its demolition and arrangement into sale lots, preparatory to Messrs J. T. Sloan and Co., district auctioneers, undertaking its realisation and distribution.[1]
