The hotel was offered for lease in October 1870:
GLOBE HOTEL to LET, containing 13 rooms, cellar, large billiard room, skittle alley, 8-stall stable, hay-loft, &c. Albert street, next Mechanics lnstitute. Rent moderate. C. Lister and Co.[1]
The hotel lease was not taken up, and by April 1871 it was being operated as a boarding house:
WANTED KNOWN, Mrs RIPPIN has taken the GLOBE HOTEL for PRIVATE BOARDING-HOUSE, where Gentlemen and Families will find every comfort and accommodation. No. 2 Albert street, one minute's walk from Post Office. Meals at all hours. Vacancies for regular boarders. Terms moderate.[2]
