History[edit | edit source]

In January 2020 Aaron Montgomery was fined after an assault at the hotel in March 2019:

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Ben Jones told the court Montgomery was drinking at the bar of the Golden Age Hotel in Beaufort around 6pm on March 2 when he followed the victim and another man out of the hotel. Unprovoked, he punched the victim several times to the face, jaw and forehead. The court heard the victim did not retaliate and went back inside the hotel to move away from Montgomery. It is reported Montgomery said 'I have waited a long time for this', before punching the victim in the nose. Senior Constable Jones said Montgomery then headbutted the victim in the nose. When arrested he told police the victim was a 'thieving rat, if I didn't assault him who would?'...Montgomery was convicted and fined $1500 and ordered to pay $84.40 in court costs.[2]

In July 2023 there was another serious assault at the hotel. A female customer began verballing abusing a man outside the hotel. She followed him inside and began pushing him around, and finally throwing a glass at his head. The man received six stitches to the cut on his face. She was charged by the police, but was placed on a good behaviour bond, and avoided a conviction.[3]
