In May 1859 the mine advertised for a tender to supply firewood:

Great Western Gold Mining Company, Nightingale Lead. TENDERS are invited for a quantity of split firewood, four feet lengths, to be delivered on the claim. Tenders to be sent in on or before Monday, 2nd May. W. SMEDDLE, Secretary. Ballarat, 29th April.[1]
