Gregory's Hotel was a hotel in Blackwood, Victoria, <1855>.

The hotel was in Golden Point, Blackwood.[1][2]

History[edit | edit source]

In August 1855, the hotel had:

"...The Ethiopians: Messrs West, Stanly, and Seymour, are still performing..."[1]

The Ethiopian Serenadors are still carrying all before them, assisted by the able pianist, R. Minton. The house is nightly crowded, and repeated encores are rapturously called for.[3]

In September 1855, the hotel had new performers:

THE AUSTRALIAN RUSSELL-So Mr. G. Hamilton delights to placard himself as: and his particular friends, Messrs W. W. Gibson, Shearcroft, C. P. Rignold and, though last, not least, Miss E. Thom, have been amusing (I hope to their own pecuniary advantage) the people of Mount Blackwood with concerts and a varied list of dramatic entertainments, in the large entertainment room of mine host Gregory, at Golden Point.[4]

Mr. Rignold, Mrs. Rignold, Mr. Shearcroft, and a Mr. Hamilton, are now giving concerts at Gregory's Hotel, Golden Point, being engaged by the landlord. As there is nothing to pay, the room is of course very well attended.[5]

In October 1855 the hotel was the venue for a dinner to farewell Lieutenant Kossack, who had been one of the first policemen appointed to Blackwood:

On Tuesday evening, 2nd inst., a complimentary dinner was given to Lieut. Kossack, who has been in charge of the police here for six months, on the occasion of his removal from this neighborhood. The dinner took place at Gregory's Hotel, Golden Point, and at seven o'clock a highly respectable company assembled. Dr. Owens occupied the chair, and Mr W. Disher the vice chair. Amongst the persons present were the warden, and magistrate, the new sub-inspector of police (Mr Small Page), and most of our leading storekeepers.[2]
