The Halfway House Hotel was a hotel near Smythesdale, Victoria, <1857 - 1915>.

Site[edit | edit source]

The Half Way House Hotel was on the Smythes Creek Road (sometimes given as the Ballarat Smythesdale Road) in 1858-1879.[1][2] The Woady Yallock Historical Society places it at the intersection of the Glenelg Highway and Bells Road, opposite the Travellers' Rest Hotel.[3] Google Maps: -37.597068, 143.768338

There was also a Halfway House Hotel on the Carngham Road at the same time, and it is possible that some of the information may be mixed up between the two hotels. These were both granted licenses at the 1863 Smythesdale Licensing Court hearing.[4] To add to the confusion there was a later Halfway House on the Burrumbeet Road.

Background[edit | edit source]
