The hotel was at Happy Valley.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

In December 1867 the publican was fined for not having a publican's license:

John Robertson v Denis Horan, of Happy Valley, do. The defendant pleaded guilty; case postponed for a month for the same purpose as in the next preceding case (to apply for a license as soon as possible).[2]

The hotel is listed in the 1903 Australian handbook, with the Prince of Wales Hotel, as being one of the two hotels in the town.[3]

The hotel's license was reviewed by the License Reduction Board in January 1912.[4]

The hotel was closed by 1916. The compensation claims were settled by the License Reduction Board during their hearings on the hotels in Creswick and Clunes. The owner was paid £220 and the licensee £10.[5]

Community Involvement[edit | edit source]

  • In December 1875 permission was granted to hold a ball at the hotel on 27 December.[6]
