Hudson's Hotel was a hotel in Ballan, 1946-2020.

The hotel was on the north west corner of Inglis and Stead Streets, Ballan.

Background[edit | edit source]

The hotel began in 1946 when Mr. W. Hudson purchased Hanrahan's Hotel:

Ballan's oldest hotel, known as Hanrahan's, was sold at auction, on Friday for £8,250. It had been held in one family for 74 years. Keen bidding commenced at £3,000 and continued in £500 rises to £6,000, when bids of £250 began, At the ceiling of £8,250 bidding stopped, with 14 buyers still competing. In a ballot Mr W. Hudson, of Daylesford, was successful. The hotel is a weatherboard structure.[1]

The hotel was purchased in 2020 by Duncan Hotels and Resorts, who also operate the Farmers' Arms in Daylesford. After extensive renovations it was reopened as the Great Western Hotel.[2]
