Hugh Hughes held the license for the Golden Horn Hotel at Golden Lake. In December 1869 he was declared insolvent:
Hugh Hughes, late of the Golden Horn hotel, Brownsvale, near Piggoreet, now out of business. Causes of insolvency—Falling off of business, losses from bad debts, and from opposition from, newly-opened hotels not properly licensed. Liabilities, £143 1s 9d; assets, £10; deficiency, £133 1s 9d.[1]
