History[edit | edit source]

Ian Larkin was the son of Les and Ethel Larkin, who had operated hotels in Donald and Corindhap.[1]

He became manager of the Blue Bell Hotel in Wendouree in 1975.[1]

He was president of the Australian Hotels Association Ballarat branch for many years. He was given the AHA Nikakis Award in 2004, “recognising an individual or organisation who by their sustained performance and commitment serve as an inspiration to all in the industry.” [1]

Over the years he managed many Ballarat hotels, including the Red Lion Hotel, Crossing Hotels, The Sporting Tavern, Larkin’s Bar and Grill, the Lake View Hotel, the Grand Hotel, and Irish Murphy’s in Sturt Street.[1]

Larkin died in 2018 after a long illness.[1]
