History[edit | edit source]

In May 1906 the hotel was destroyed by fire:

DESTRUCTIVE FIRE. The Illabrook hotel, near Pitfield, was destroyed by fire early this morning. The building was one of the landmarks of the district. It contained 15 rooms. The occupants were awakened by the roaring of the flames, and had so little time to escape that only a few clothes were rescued. Mr. Stokes, a boarder, had a narrow escape, having to make a hurried exit through a bedroom window. The flames burst into the room as he was leaving it. The owner was Mrs. Brabner of Ballarat and the property was insured.[2]
