John Vail Cougle was a publican in Clunes, Victoria, <1883-1888>.

Cougle held the license for the Station Hotel in Clunes from at least December 1883.[1] He had left the hotel before 1894.

He was married to Eliza.

He died on 8 January 1901:

COUGLE. —On the 8th January, at his late residence, Beaconsfield, John Vail, dearly beloved husband of Eliza Cougle, late of Clunes and formerly of St. Johns, New Brunswick, aged 77 years. A colonist of 50 years.[2]

Eliza Cougle died in June 1929:

COUGLE. —On the 11th June, at Pershore, 38 Moubray street, Albert Park, Eliza, the dearly beloved wife of the late John Vail Cougle, and loving mother of Lottie, George, Fanny (deceased), Minnie, Joe, Carrie, Arthur, Walter, Will, Edmund (deceased), Ernest, Gertie, Amy, and Frank, in her 92nd year, formerly of Clunes and Beaconsfield. A colonist of 75 years. Mother.[3]

His daughter, Minnie, died in July 1934:

COUGLE. — On the 4th July, at 16 Dickens street, Glen Iris, Mary Ann (Minnie) Cougle, third daughter of the late John Vail and Eliza Cougle, late of Beaconsfield and Clunes, sister of George, Charlotte (Lottie), Fanny (deceased), John (Joe), Arthur, Caroline, Carrie, Walter, William, Edmund (deceased), Ernest, Gertie, Amy, and Frank, aged 72 years. Peacefully sleeping.[4]
