History[edit | edit source]

In September 1860, Stoddart was running the Nugget Store at Smythesdale:

On Tuesday night, the Nugget Store (the property of Mr James Stoddart) was entered, and the rain failing heavily at the time on the metal roof favored the purpose of the thieves; the consequence was that the whole of the stock - enough to fill several drays was carried away. The loss is estimated at £120.[1]

From at least June 1862 to November 1865 Stoddart had the lease for the Old House at Home Hotel, in the Carngham Licensing District.[2][3] In November 1865 the license was transferred to Mr. Simper.[4]
