History[edit | edit source]

John Luckcraft was the publican at two hotels in Clunes. Licensing records show that he was publican of the Bull and Mouth Hotel between 1858-1860.[1][2]

He was at the Commercial Hotel in Clunes between 1863-1886.[3][4][5][6][7] In 1864 his license was struck out when he failed to appear at the licensing hearings at the Clunes Police Court.[8]

He owned a horse which was shot in a paddock at Clunes:

Mr John Luckraft, proprietor of the Commercial Hotel here, has sustained considerable loss by the destruction of a valuable mare which he had paddocked near the town. On visiting the paddock yesterday he found that the animal's knee joint had been shattered by a gun shot, which necessitated its slaughter. The injury is believed to have been purposely inflicted.[9]
