History[edit | edit source]

Goldstucker was a clerk to David Weigert, and was called as a witness in the Insolvency Court during Weigert's bankruptcy in September 1856.[1]

Goldstucker is listed in the Victorian Government Gazette as having paid for a publican's license at the Ballarat office in September 1859.[2] His application for a license in August 1859 was postponed for one week.[3] He was granted the license for the Phoenix Inn at the Eastern Police Court in September 1859.[4]

In June 1860, Goldstucker opened a school at his house in Dana Street:

FRENCH SCHOOL,-The undersigned begs to announce to the inhabitants of Ballarat, families in particular, that he has opened a French School at his residence in Dana street, where he hopes to meet with a liberal support, as this is the first and only Institute in this locality. Daily lessons for beginners and evening classes for conversation. For further particulars apply at the school house, or to Messrs Thos. Lang & Co. Julius Goldstucker, between Lyons and Raglan streets.[5]

In June 1862, Goldstucker unsuccessfully applied for the position of rate collector for the city of Ballarat.[6]

In February 1864, Goldstucker was a witness in a court case between John Sims and Jane Murray. Goldstucker had seen Sims pulling down Murray's fence in Humffray Street.[7]
