Background[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

In June 1883 the publican, L. Dyer, was one of several district publicans to be charged with substituting brandy:

L. Dyer, of Coomoora, pleaded guilty to draught brandy as Hennessy's bottled, and was fined, as in the previous case, £2 on the first charge, 10s, on the second charge, with £4 15s 8d. costs.[2]

The owners and the publican surrendered the license to the License Reduction Board in November 1908:

Mr. Plante (Upton and Plante) applied to the Licenses Reduction Board yesterday for the surrender of the license of the Junction Hotel, Coomoora, in the Franklin licensing district. The application was made on behalf of the owners (Mrs. Morrison and the Misses Dyer) and of the licensee (James F. O'Keefe). It was agreed to accept the surrender as from December 31, and to hear the claims for compensation at Daylesford on Saturday. There will be no re-allotment of the lost license fee, as the amount involved is only £1, and the owners undertook to pay it.[1]

The owner was paid £160 compensation and the licensee £25.[3]
