The London Shades Hotel was a hotel in Ballarat, Victoria, <1862-1863>.

The London Shades Hotel was in Lydiard Street[1], opposite the Law Courts and the gaol.[2]

The hotel was offered for sale in January 1862:

THE LONDON SHADES HOTEL, Lydiard street, opposite all the Law Courts and new Gaol is now for Sale. The above, for a permanent and profitable investment, is unequalled in Ballarat. No Cash required for six or twelve months. The land adjoining and 66 feet in the rear, facing Armstrong street, can be included if desired. For particulars apply London Tavern, 44 Bridge street, Main Road.[2]

The People[edit | edit source]

  • In May 1859, the license application by William E. Pearce was postponed for seven days.[3]
  • In June 1862 the publican's license was granted to Alfred Jewell.[4]
    • His license was renewed in June 1863[1] His license hearing was postponed for two weeks in June 1863.[1]
