History[edit | edit source]

The hotel was mentioned in a news report on a meeting to demand better policing in Ballarat:

The committee have ascertained that the only protection the present police force, under the able command of Mr Kirk, can give, is a patrol of four mounted and two foot police from dusk until twelve p m., and two foot police out until six o'clock in the morning. The extent of their beats will at once prove their utter inefficiency, extending from the Camp to the Eagle Hotel on the New Chum Road and across the Eureka to the Lucky Hole Hotel.[1]
