Martha Gatens was a publican in the Grenville Shire in 1867.

History[edit | edit source]

In December Gatens was fined in the Linton Court for not holding a publican's license. The hotel is not named:

John Robertson v Martha Gatens, do. The defendant pleaded not guilty, and said the informers had got the drink, through representing that they had been taken ill. Mr M'Dermott, after consulting with the shire president, said that it was wished to be as lenient as possible. The usual fine, &c., were recorded, but there was an understanding that the shire council would remit a portion of the amount on the promise that the defendant would not sell any more without a license.[1]
