Matthew Edward Heagney was a publican in the Ballarat district.

Heagney died in 1929:

MR. M. E. HEAGNEY. Mr. Matthew Edward Heagney, who died at his home, Reed-street, Creswick, at the age of 64 years, leaves a wife and family of nine. The late Mr. Heagney had lived at Kooroocheang and at Rocklyn (where he kept the Rocklyn Hotel), but of recent years had been living in Creswick, where he was employed by the State Nursery. Among the many floral tributes laid on the casket at his funeral to the Creswick Cemetery were those from the Creswick Football Club, Creswick Junior Football Club, the employes of the Corio Stores, Geelong; employes of the Vacuum Oil Co. at Yarraville, and the State Nursery employes at Creswick. Rev. Fr. O'Rourke conducted the burial service, the chief mourners being Messrs. P. and J. Heagney (brothers of deceased), W., D., T., and P. Kelly (brothers-in-law.), and J. Stapleton (son-in-law). Messrs. Matthew, Patrick, Denis, William, John, and Thomas Heagney (sons of deceased) bore the casket to the graveside. The pall-bearers were: Sir A. J. Peacock, and Messrs. G. Tait, T. Kelly, J. Slattery, T. and P. Cushing, E. A. Dooley, P. Donovan, W. Marchment, H. Foran, J. Griffin, J. McCauley, D. Ryan, H. McGrath, T. Rush, W. Blarney, T. Symonds, J. Noonan, F. Byrne, W. Pavano, R. Miller, M. Clohesy, J. D. Ryan, P. Clohesy, A. O'Dea, F. Sloane, T. Keen, J. Russell, W. Surridge, A. Johnston, R. Hepburn, D. McRae, W. Robinson, J. Righetti, F. Pickering, E. Walpole, F. Gibbs, J.
