In June 1865, the hotel was offered for lease:

The hotel displayed art work in August 1865:

"On view for a few days, at McLaren's Hotel, a splendid oil painting by Captain Robertson."[5]

In June 1883, the publican was in court for allowing a boxing match at the hotel:

The case against the licensee of M'Laren's Hotel, Bridge street, for allowing the recent glove contest on his premises, was heard at the Town Court this morning Mr Gaunt, for the defendant, pleaded ignorance of the law, and under the circumstances Inspector Parkinson allowed the charge to be withdrawn[6]

On 17 October 1883, the Sheriff was advertising a sale to be held at the hotel unless matters were settled.[7]
