Mister Lalors Social Club is a hotel in Ballarat, 2021>.

Site[edit | edit source]

The hotel business is on the corner of Doveton and Mair Streets, Ballarat.

Background[edit | edit source]

The hotel site was originally Tait's Hotel in the 1860s. It had become the Royal Highlander Hotel by the 1880s. In 1961 it was renamed as the Peter Lalor Hotel. It closed in 2014. The building was reopened as a bar in 2018, called The Pub With Two Names, and renamed The Highlander in September 2020. Following the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, the hotel reopened in July 2021 as Mister Lalors Social Club.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

The hotel has been designed to have an inner city Melbourne feel, based on bars in Fitzroy and Collingwood. The new decor also features local artists, including a large mural created by Main Road tattooist Hamish Hamilton.[1] The atmosphere is planned to be warm and friendly, cheap food, craft beers, pool night, karaoke etc.[1]
