The hotel lease was offered for sale in April 1867:

WEDNESDAY, 24th APRIL. IMPORTANT SALE BY AUCTION of VALUABLE PROPERTY. In the Insolvent Estate of JOHN HENRY DICKINSON, of Mount Rowan, Publican. J. S. CARVER has received instructions from F. R. M1TCHISON, ESQ., to sell by public auction, on the premises, at Mount Rowan, the unexpired term of lease (6 years) in and to the valuable and well-known Mount Rowan Hotel, (Store and Post Office), orchard, and nursery, containing ten acres of the finest soil, fully stocked with fruit trees in full bearing, and some thousands of trees and shrubs ready for sale at the present planting season. The Hotel and Store is but recently erected, and commands a large trade. The whole subject to a rental of £2 10s per week. Also, household furniture, wines, beers, spirits, groceries, oilmen's stores, jams, platform scales, cigars, tobacco, crockery, glassware, pigs, cow, 30 tons of cut firewood, garden tools, and a large quantity of ripe grapes and other fruits, &c., &c. Sale at Twelve o'clock sharp. Terms for stock—Cash. Terms for Lease—To suit purchasers. Full particulars as to lease to be had by application at the Official Assignee's Office, Lydiard street, Ballarat.[2]

  • In 1868 the hotel was one of the venues chosen by James McIntosh, President of the Shire of Learmonth for a meeting:

"...to take into consideration the desirability of PRESENTING the Hon. Mr GRANT, M.L.A., with a suitable TESTIMONIAL, as a small recognition of his long and valuable public services to the colony."[3]
