The hotel was in Barry's Reef, about 2.5 kms north of Blackwood.[1][2]

In August 1873, Daniel Cronin advertised that he was going to apply for a publican's license at Barry's Reef, Blackwood:
I HEREBY give notice that it is my intention to apply to the Licensing Bench of Magistrates, sitting at the Court of Petty Sessions, Blackwood, on FRIDAY, September 26th, 1873, for a certificate authorising the issue of a PUBLICAN'S LICENSE for a house situated at Barry's Reef. The said house contains six rooms, besides those required for the use of my family. DANIEL CRONIN. Barry's Reef, August 13th, 1873.[4]

- In December 1874, 1876, 1877, 1879 and 1881, the license was granted to D. Cronin (misspelled as D. Cronan in 1874 and 1877).[5][1][2][6][7]
