The Prince of Wales Hotel was on the corner of Eyre Street and Drummond Street.[1][2]

Background[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

The hotel was described in the license application of June 1864:

DANIEL MITCHELL, Eyre street, Borough of Ballarat.-Wooden building, containing eight rooms, and licensed as the Prince of Wales Hotel.[3]

In March 1876, Aron Stern advertised for his license application:

NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A PUBLICAN'S LICENSE. — To the Licensing Magistrates at Ballarat West— I, ARON STERN, of Drummond street, Ballarat, do hereby give notice that I desire to obtain, and will at the next Licensing Meeting apply for a PUBLICAN'S LICENSE for a house situate at Drummond street, Ballarat, containing six rooms exclusive of those required for the use of the family, and known as the Princes of Wales Hotel, in lieu of a transfer held by me. The 7th day of March, A.D. 1876. ARON STERN.[4]
