The Retreat Hotel was a hotel in Ballarat, Victoria, 1868-1871>.

The hotel was in Peel Street North.[1]

The hotel was opened with a celebration in August 1868:

AN OPENING BALL will be given at the RETREAT HOTEL on Monday, the 17th instant, in Peel street.[2]

In April 1869 the publican Fanny White advertised her intention to transfer the license, as she was moving to the Bush Inn in Main Road:

Notice of intention to apply for transfer of LICENSE from one PERSON to ANOTHER.—I. FANNY WHITE, the holder of a License for the house and premises known as the RETREAT HOTEL, situate at Peel street, do hereby give NOTICE that it is my intention to apply to the Justices sitting at the Court of Petty Sessions, to be holden at Ballarat East, on 3rd May, to TRANSFER the said license to GEORGE ASHMAN, of Ballarat. Given under my hand this twentieth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.[3]

The hotel was offered for sale in December 1869.[4]

In January 1870, all the hotel fittings were offered for sale by auction:

THIS DAY, JOHN HYAMS has received instructions from C. S. Ashman to SELL by PUBLIC AUCTION, on the premises, Retreat Hotel, Peel street north, on Monday, 3rd January, at Twelve o'clock sharp, All his HOUSEHOLD FURNITURE and Effects. Also, Bar fittings, 2-pull beer engine, clock, ale and wine glasses, cigars, and lot of sundries. No Reserve. Terms—Cash. JOHN HYAMS, Auctioneer.[5]
