Robert Howie was a publican in Miners' Rest, Victoria, <1883-1887>.

History[edit | edit source]

Howie was granted the publican's license for an unnamed hotel in Miners' Rest in December 1883.[1] It was renewed for the Newmarket Hotel in 1885.[2]

A daughter, Frances, was born at the hotel in October 1885, but died one week later:

HOWIE—On the 18th October, at Newmarket Hotel, Miner's Rest, the wife of Robert Howie, of a daughter.[3]

Howie.— On the 22nd October, at Newmarket Hotel, Miner’s Rest, Frances, the infant daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Howie.[4]

In September 1886 his son died at the hotel:

Howie.— On the 6th September, at Newmarket Hotel, Miner’s Rest, Herbert Amos, the youngest, son of Robert and Elizabeth Lousia Howie.[5]

In December 1887 Howie transferred the license to Margaret Gregg.[6]
