The hotel was offered for sale in February 1870:

THIS DAY. MONDAY, 21st FEBRUARY, At Twelve o'clock, On the premises known as the Rose of Australia Hotel, Darling street, near All Saints claim. Sale of Eight-roomed House, known as THE ROSE OF AUSTRALIA HOTEL, DARLING STREET, Having a Frontage of 51 feet by 224 feet; And, also, A TWO-ROOMED SKILLION, Situated in Latrobe street, frontage 66 feet by 115. I. DEAN has received instructions from Mr Praed to sell by auction on Monday, 21st instant, at Twelve o'clock, on the premises known as the Rose of Australia Hotel, the abovementioned properties.
