History[edit | edit source]
In September 1853 a horse was lost at Buninyong. A reward of £10 was offered for its return to Mr. Porter at the hotel.[1]
In May 1856 the hotel had been sold to recover some of the debts of the publican, James Porter:
INSOLVENT COURT. Monday, 19th May, 1856. (Before John Henry Mercer, Esq., Commissioner.) IN RE JAMES PORTER: Third meeting. Insolvent present. The official assignee reported the assets in this estate had been realised, and the public house at Buninyong, which was given up to the official assignee by the insolvent and his partner Fleming, had been sold by auction, and realised, with the stock and furniture, upwards of 1300L. A plan of distribution would be filed immediately after the close of this meeting. Mr Vincent, for the insolvent, complained of the manner in which the sale was conducted. The Commisioner said Mr Vincent had no locus standi in the Court, such complaint should come from the creditors.[2]
