The Royal Standard Hotel was a hotel in Mount Bolton, Victoria, <1860-1883>.

Site[edit | edit source]

The hotel was in Mount Bolton[1] which was later known as Addington. It was described in 1860 in a letter to the Ballarat Star as being two miles north of the Addington Hotel, along the road to Waubra.[2]

Background[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

In October 1860, the publican wrote a letter to the Ballarat Star, complaining about the state of the roads after several drays on the way to Avoca were bogged in the road near his hotel.[2]

In April 1862 the publican, John McKenzie, was granted an extension of his license to cover the Mount Bolton Races.[3]

In March 1863, there was an assault in the hotel's booth at the Mount Bolton races. Another local publican, George Tregent, was knocked down and kicked.[4]
