History[edit | edit source]
The hotel was one of 11 Ballarat hotels closed in 1911 by the License Reduction Board.[1]
After closure, the publican moved to a hotel in Hamilton:
SALE OF LEASE OF ARGYLE HOTEL. Mr. E. H. Atkinson reports having effected the sale of the lease, goodwill, stock, and furniture of the well-known Argyle Arms hotel, Hamilton. Mr. J. C. Sherman, late of Sale Yards hotel, Ballarat, was the purchaser, and he will take possession on the 5th inst.[2]
