Background[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

The hotel probably opened in August 1863:

The application of Rudolph Schroder for a license for the Schroder Hotel, Fraser street was postponed for a week, as the house was not quite ready for business.[3]

The publican was charged in June 1868:

Police v John Stockden, landlord of Schroder's hotel, for allowing card-playing in his house on Sunday morning last. As Stockden bore a good character in general, the case was withdrawn on his contributing £3 3s to the poor-box.[4]
